Back in 1997 when I was visiting my friend in Tuxford near Nottingham in the United Kingdom, we were surfing the web and he was showing me some pictures of Ms Bettie Page. After reading brief snippets of her story and viewing the photos I was HOOKED, and here is why. Bettie Page is a famous, if not the most famous, American pinup model during the early 50's and in 1957 she suddenly, at the height of her career, disappeared from public life. She has appeared in many of the men's magazines of the day, including the fledgling publication 'Playboy'. During the 1950's she had a real hourglass figure of 36-24-35, possessing such fabulous curves, innocent smile, sparkling blue eyes and that distinctive black banged hairstyle it is no wonder her legend expanded over the decades. She has become the inspiration of many artists (as seen on this page), designers, bdsm enthusiasts the world over as well as the public in general; some say she is credited with starting the sexual revolution. The combination of her girl next-door looks and her dangerous sensuality did have a great influence on many people that has inspired her thriving fan club and army of admirers today. By the way, that is her autograph at the top of this page. Many questions have been posed as to her whereabouts during her disappearance: Did she kill herself? Did she marry the Shah of Iran? Did the FBI assassinate her? Did she become a nun? Did she have plastic surgery? There are many factors concerning Bettie's sudden retirement from modeling. It was not until 1992, after all the mystery, Bettie was discovered, by two reporters, to be alive and well, in her 70's, and living in as a private citizen somewhere in California and the story revealed. |
